Cress Experiments

HERE ARE MY PERSONAL SIDE BY SIDE CRESS EXPERIMENTS
2/18 -2 Store bought cress with the root ball intact From Sprouts.
2/20 I bought 2 bags from Trader Joes - different suppliers than Sprouts
The 2 bags from Sprouts were potted in 100 % coco coir and placed in a tray of water. Both plants took immediately to the replant and by day 5 they were already growing new sets of leaves and shoots.

The 2 bags from Trader Joes were both potted in 100% coco coir and place in a tray of water. One plant wilted and withered almost immediately. The other slight wilt. By day 3 the withering plant still withering.. the other plant was starting to recover and probably will be fine.

Clippings in water starts: 2/20 I took 5 clippings about 4" long each from the healthy Sprout plants, and by day 3, all of the clippings had already started growing roots! All the leaves were very supple and healthy.

My conclusion is that cress from clippings will start really easy from good healthy living plants.

SEPARATING CLUMPED PLANTS: On 2/18 I bought 1 bag of cress with root ball, and gently separated the shoots with root in to individual strands... planting each in to 100% coco coir in net cups and keeping them in a tray of water; I ended up with about 20 net cups. By Day 5.. 5 of them totally died.. the other 13 were mostly still struggling, with a couple looking very good.

Early conclusion: I would by the bagged cress with root ball, and re-pot it, keeping is very moist at all times. Then take your cuttings from you new healthy plant, start then in water and after about 5 to 8 days..plant them in your growing medium. I would not waste time separating it from it's original root ball, as they start very quickly from clippings in water.

SEED STARTING As of this writing..I did not have great success from seed starts. My seeds may not have been from good quality source. I'm looking for other seed source and will update then.
