I'm a huge fan of container growing! I use 5 gallon buckets and 2.5 gallon buckets a lot!
I'd like you to watch a video from MHP Gardener on this, as that is where I learned this from.
I personally use a 50% potting soil mixed with 50% perlite. I always use a 5 gallon paint strainer net and I install a
elbow/pvc drain at the bottom of buckets! Even if I don't think I'll be running a pump, I still do this, just in case.
I use MasterBlend exactly as MHPGardener does. I have for 3 years and have had great results. However, I'm going to do some experimenting, this year, with manure tea, as describe by Seely Pratt and his tomatoes. I'll keep you all updated on my results.
