LEAFY GREENS! GROW A BOAT LOAD!

CUT AND COME BACK CROPS ARE THE BOMB!

Leafy Greens are one my first and favorite crops to container garden grow!
Pretty much all varieties will do very well in containers

Easy, fun, delicious and very productive! And best of all you can cut them back up to 2 to 4 harvests and they'll regrow. You can seed start most varieties in as little 4 to 6 days to germinate and about 30 to 45 days to 1st harvest. Swiss Chard takes about 10 days to germinate and 45 days to a first harvest of baby leaves 8" to 9" tall. Swiss Chard can grow quite tall; up to 2 feet. But most people harvest them much sooner: 8" to 12"
With that said, leafy crops are a cool weather crop, so when our temps exceed abut 85 to 90 it will be difficult to grow them. Swiss Chard can go a little longer, but heat will eventually take it's toll on your Swiss Chard plants too.

This year (1/2016), I have approximately 20 of the 2.5 gallon blue buckets filled with several different varieties of leafy greens to include, now my most favorite: "Swiss Chard". there are several varieties, I choose the rainbow Swiss Chard, and it is so easy to grow from seedling! Swiss Chard is seriously nutritious too! Here is a photo from a fairly recent harvest:

I rinse my greens in a 2:1 water:white vinegar. Just a quick dip, then rinse with plain water. Gently pat dry
Extra greens (dry) go into a ziplock baggie and into fridge for next salad!
